Old Mill Wind Farm

Old Mill Windfarm

The Old Mill Wind Farm project was located in the townlands of Carrickatee and Lisduff in County Monaghan, approximately 9km south-west of Castleblayney town. The project was a design and build project and included the electrical and civil balance of plant works.

The project consisted of:

The site consisted of two separate areas with four separate site entrances from the public road to individual turbines or turbine clusters. The turbines were connected electrically via an internal underground cable between the WTG’s. There was over 2km between the separate areas of the site. The output of this wind farm was 17.1MW on completion.

Work Phases

Old Mill Wind Farm Phase 1: Site Preparation and Off-Site Works

This phase of construction initially comprised of clearance of any areas required to access the proposed site compound area. Site entrance works and public road modifications to form safe access and egress to the site were also undertaken during this phase.

Old Mill Wind Farm Phase 2: Site Infrastructure/Balance of Plant (BoP) Works

This phase comprised of the construction of civil and electrical infrastructural works associated with the project. This included civil and structural works in the form of site tracks, hardstanding areas, turbine foundations, a control building, substation compound and other associated infrastructure. The trenching and installation of the wind farm network cabling was carried out during this phase, along with the electrical installation in the control building and substation compound. Off-site works were also undertaken on public roads during this phase in order to facilitate the delivery of abnormal loads and turbine components.

Old Mill Wind Farm Phase 3: Turbine Supply Works

This phase ran concurrently with the latter stages of Phase 2 (described above). Turbine components were delivered to the site and erected and commissioned by the Turbine Supplier.
