Branxton

The Contract consisted of a combined Civils and Balance of Plant contract to install new foundations, structures, 400kV surge arresters, PTI’s and cable sealing ends in the Torness – Branxton 400kV circuits at Branxton 400kV substation.

Civils works consisted of excavation, ducting, earthing, platform upfill and foundation works for the new support structures.

The Balance of Plant contract included decommissioning and removal of existing 400kV switchgear equipment and the installation of new foundations, steel structures and new 400kV switchgear plant to reinforce both 400kV Circuits, Eccles 1 and Eccles 2.

The works were carried out on an open live busbar 400kV substation environment through the corresponding outages and within Scottish Power Energy Networks Safety Rules. These works are part of the ENSG 2020 programme of works to upgrade the East-West transmission corridor (Strathaven – Wishaw – Kaimes – Smeaton) from 275kV to 400kV.
